It seems that the VR headset market in India is about to explode. Samsung is the latest to enter this segment with Gear VR, which is powered by Oculus virtual reality technology. The new consumer headset is a refined version of last year’s model and is compatible with the latest crop of high-end Samsung phones, including the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
The VR headset is priced for Rs 8,200 and will be available on Flipkart along with other offline stores.
As compared to the last year’s headset, the design of the Samsung Gear VR has seen several subtle improvements, like the removal of the hair-flattening plastic band on its top. But there’s a lot more change under the hood that deserves your attention. It’s a measly fee for Samsung phone owners to buy into this now-proven technology.
For now Oculus and Samsung have added 150+ games and apps on the Samsung Gear VR. Also they are looking at means to continuously add new content for headset.
We like the pricing of the Samsung Gear VR but we think Samsung will have to push in more Indian-specific content for this to pick up in India.
